Gastgeber Karibuni Lodge

about us

“Writing down everything you have, you have a list. Writing down everything you experienced, you have a story.” (Jochen Schweizer, German entrepreneur)

We are a family from Munich who emigrated to Chile in the end of 2017 with the dream of running our own little lodge.

  • Michael (called Much), an original guy from Munich, a former creative TV Producer and director, with world travel experience and passion for sports, planing and organizing.
  • Steffi, born in the former eastern part of Germany, a tourist manager, with passion for gardening and decorating
  • and Leo, our little whirlwind, who enjoys the country life and who is in pole position at each work and every new project.

Equipped with a great passion for traveling, exploring and meeting other cultures, ways of life and people, we always had the dream to run a small tourism project in a special place one day. For travelers, who are also looking for an individual journey, special experiences and the contact with the people. Our search for a suitable land and object brought us to different places, but it was relatively quickly determined that we want to realize our dream in Chile. We have visited Chile several times over the past 12 years – from the Atacama Desert in the north to Tierra del Fuego in the south. In addition to the incredible diversity of nature, we were particularly impressed by the culture and the people, the hospitality and the high status of the family.

After looking at objects in various parts of the country, we chose northern Patagonia, and the region of Villarrica. With a lot of luck and after a long search, we finally found our property on the still quite undeveloped north side of the Lago Villarrica. We were immediately inspired by the view, the peace and the dreamlike scenery. At the beginning of 2018 we started our project with the conversion of the already existing main house as well as the construction of the new guesthouses. With lot of heart and sweat, we have done most of the work personally with the support of friends and our employee Don Segundo. All family members helped and it became our own, very personal project.

Now we are looking forward to welcome guests from all over the world, who prefer an accommodation that is far away from mass tourism and offers all possible amenities, who  seek peace and nature and who enjoy the very personal contact to us as hosts.
